The final day
Yesterday was my final day of work at NTUC Fairprice Bedok North A.

It was quite a sad affair as I will miss all the kind aunties (senior cashiers) - and not so kind aunties. The extra effort they poured out to us to coach us new cashiers. My first week of work was actually as a Retail Assistant. But I changed my line of duty as a cashier.
I could still remember the time we students finished training at the institute at Queenstown...

At that time, it was [Yi huei, Khai hui, Mei Hui](not in Picture), Poh Gek, Hui Xin, me, Theresa, Hazelina, Munir, Norisnah and Karyi.
The times we all ate together at KFC/ Burger King/ Long John...

The times at the outside counter (o/s 1 and o/s 2) doing nothing but listen to music on my phone while recharging it at the power points...

When the drinks and hush puppies came at o/s 1, things became a bit more hectic...

The beers came too...

Hush Puppies women's and men's boxers... God, I never knew women wore boxers too...

Then came my time at the o/s 2. That was where you could really sit down and do practically nothing except recieve payments. Thats because only oranges were sold there and numbered barcodes corresponding to the types of oranges sold were provided to you, so you only need to accept payment from the customers and two packers will pack the oranges and box it or place the oranges in bags depending on the customer's taste.
However, I was damn lucky that Friday 16th as it was the tiger roadshow!

People started buying tiger beer like crazy as there was a special promotion and lucky draw given out for anyone buying just one box of tiger.

I really cursed the nets machine as it broke down 3 hours into the promotion, causing me to lose 2k in sales...
Anyway, there was also this giant cylinder with well wishes written by many people young and old for the coming new year:

Digressing for a while, as a cashier, i meet so many people but one common thing is that most think i'm a chinese. So I get many people talking to me in chinese (whatever dialect, I also dunno...). I especially hate China people cause they simply dunno anything else except for chinese... come to me blur blur give me $50 for even a simple Halls candy... Whats funny is that malay aunties think I look eurasian. One auntie, even after speaking to her in street malay with slang, she say: U not malay rite? Mohamed Haikal on your receipt is chinese, not malay...
So because people think im chinese, I got no qualms walking up to 财神 and taking whatever he was giving away...

It reads: Prosperity in everything you do

To give you an idea of cost of the beer...

That day, sales came to 13k++. I was damn happy as only Weide, can reach that amount on a normal day...
However, I did get my proper highest amount, much higher than the previous 5k+...

Look under Reducing Bank Function... $4500!!! My highest pickup ever!
Total sales for that day: 9k++!!!1

I'll never forget the time I had to throw away some packed fish that a customer rejected. Every auntie was like, telling me to throw away the fish. Even Mei Hui was pestering me. The thing is, I was busy counting money at that time. Was going crazy at the fishy problem... So me and Mei Hui went to the fridges at fp

(in case you were wondering, yes they exist), and dumped it in there...

I can infer from the picture that there are large air conditioners, the purpose being to cool the room to ridiculously low temperatures:

Anyways, I kept my employee sign on/ sign off receipts for posterity:

Since the second day of cny sees drunken people from last night, there was not much customers around as they recover from an almighty hangover. I siao go wake up at 7am also I dunno... I rushed like crazy to fp, thinking I was 1/2 hour late, only to find out that I was 2 1/2 hours early... I just open counter larh, Tuesday was already and overtime, so I get an even longer overtime pay. Good for me...
Then, the chief cashier, Saminah told me to cro for some time. To me, it was like, oklah. I get to experience being an early bird, cro, accidentally press media declare at the wrong time again(I have long fingers...). Pickup was only $800...

Partly due to me cro-ing for 3hrs...
My final sales was:

Pathetic, but it was like, no customers so, its ok ok lah.
Wait, before I close the post, here is my last story. I actually got that customer. The one all the seniors fear. The one who does not allow the cashier to scan her items. The gigantic lady who will proclaim to the whole world your mistakes. The one who even the supervisor says she will disappear when she is dead. The list goes on. How I know it's her, is because Azizah showed me that woman one time when she went to fp. She targets people like us - students - and will tell the world about our shortcomings.
However, that sunday when she came to my counter, she actually let me touch her stuff. Not just that, she let me scan the items. The ONLY thing that came out of her mouth was : "Are you supposed to pack like that?!". Actually, I was rather shocked that she was a member of ntuc as well...
The event left me stunned, not because of her intimidating height, but because she was lenient on me. Very lenient...
Oh wow, I've like written so much and now, its coming to an end. Just like my time at fp, my post is ending but just before I do so, I'd like to list the aunties who became my teachers aka mums, as they are known among us:
In order from my first to last senior who coached me
1. Kumari - kind indian lady who taught me how to handle pork (coz she, even though she is not a muslim, dislikes pork)
2. Fauziah - another very kind indian muslim lady. she is like a motherly figure coz she looks at me like her son
3. Cheng cheng - this auntie is liked by everybody as she never scolds and is extremely patient
4. Poh Dee - she is like my grandmother, though not so old. always praises us and particularly because I broke her declaration fault chain that one time I was under her care.
5. Bee Loo - A very senior auntie. Takes things in her pace and accepts if what is done, is done.
6. Azizah - really a true blue malay makcik. However her mouth... she is my teacher im originally attached to.
7. Puspa Joanne - got nothing much to say about her except she is loud mouthed and speaks english, malay, mandarin and tamil with a degree of proficiency. And who scolded us before... now I don't like her anymore...
Kumari was the first teacher but Azizah is my actual teacher. The others taught me when Azizah was not around.
And then there are the chief cashers who come down to do pickup for us, and voiding.
1. Rose Emilio - new chief cashier who wore such sharp high heels, its scary...
2. Serena - Newly promoted to cheif cashier coz Susan left...
3. Lynn Sim - Siam lee... shorty, si pendek, setan kecik... (obviously came from Azizah's mouth). Our employer lah and generally shows the blackest face in the world all the time
4. Saminah - I dunno why she was so lenient to me... Everyone else got scolded if they did not wear their apron and nametag... I have never worn my nametag and apron before (partly coz I was never issued an apron, even when Mei Hui "complained" loudly to her)
So thats it, the end of my post. The end of my time at Fairprice BNA. No more "count float", "paid stickers!", "super card!", "check fruit prices", "auntie, this one got promotion arh?", "aiyah void again", "member?", "pay by...?", "today is bring your own bag day...", "I know you senior citizen", "yes I work part-time here", "see arh! press cashcard offline...", "paging for 09 to the office/ service counter thank you", "its at the service counter", "declare paper!", "sui ah!", "aiyah, not balance again...".
I will miss my time at FP... Sam's gift to me, a box of chocolates. A way to say thank you for all your help:
